1. CBN Targets October 1 for Digital Currency Launch

Two years of reflection on digital money technologies have followed the CBN decision. Furthermore, it is also an incentive to introduce digital money that CBN intends to attain 80 percent financial inclusion before the end of 2021. The currency is also called “Central Bank Digital Currency” (CBDC)

Although there is a lot of information regarding this digital currency that is due to be introduced shortly, you should be aware of six points below:

It is Totally a Cryptocurrency.

The e-Naira would indeed be a virtual currency that would only be digital. Therefore you can only get it online. The regulating body would be the Central Bank of Nigeria.

It is accepted worldwide.

CBDC would qualify for domestic and global transactions with a short or no processing delay and lower transaction charges than real currencies. This would also enable you to link your digital currency bank with available resources in your bank.

It’s not a Cryptocurrency

Although every cryptocurrency is digital, it must be noted that not all digital currencies are cryptocurrencies. E-Naira is controlled by Nigeria’s Central Bank, although no government regulates cryptocurrencies.

Financial Institutions would still be relevant

A two-tier approach to allow an organization that leaves opportunity for public-private collaboration. Hence will be used to execute the digital money. Like the real currency, the CBN designs e-Naira and spreads it via regulated financial institutions. Thus subsequently supply individuals and companies with digital cash.

Finally, we are awaiting its launch on the 1st of October 2021.

They finance small to medium-sized, community-based organizations with little in-house marketing or financing. Project and operational expenditures including rent, utilities, salary, wage application will be taken into consideration.

How to Appy

Only after 1 October 2021 are online applications allowed and a closing date is 22 Oct 2021. Before March 2022, applicants will be notified whether financing succeeds. Eligibility for financing shall be determined at the discretion of our regional volunteers and of the Board of Trustees of the Catalytic Foundation.
